No one really likes to admit that they're lacking faith, but it happens to all of us. We all go through seasons of life where our faith just doesn’t get the attention that it so greatly deserves. Sometimes things happen in our lives, we lose a loved one, lose a relationship, experience a natural disaster, etc. that really cause us to question our faith in God. We’re angry, upset, heartbroken, and lonely, and we just can’t believe that our King could allow these things to happen to us. These are natural human emotions that sometimes we cannot control. However, the problem starts whenever we let these emotions seriously affect our faith. The issue is when we allow the devil to take control of our God-given emotions and tell us that God allowed these things to happen because He doesn’t care about us. OBVIOUSLY such a big lie, but when we are so emotionally vulnerable it can be very difficult to shake the devil out of our ear. The hardest part of it all is that when we recognize that we are lacking faith it can be so incredibly difficult to turn back to Him and try to overcome it. However, we must try with all of our might to persevere through these struggles that cause our faith to waiver by flipping open our bibles. The first verse that helps me when I can feel my faith slacking is Romans 8:18, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed to us.” I love this verse because it is a beautiful reminder of the fact that whatever we are facing now is so minute compared to the wonderful glory and grace that God will pour on us. It can be so tough to remember this when we are going through things that feel like they are going to break us, but this verse is a great one to read over. I also like it because it’s short so it’s a great one to just repeat to yourself over and over again while your faith builds back up. The next verse that is great to read when your faith has been shaken is Isaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” When our faith is lacking it can be so hard to just remember the basics: that our God is with us, and He is going to strengthen and uphold us. The very last thing that God wants is for us to lose faith in Him and His goodness. This verse reminds us that even when we don’t know where to turn He is guiding us every step of the way. Our relationship with God can be so complicated at times, especially when we encounter struggles, but let’s not forget that He is on our side. He understands that we are human and that sometimes our faith waivers, but He wants nothing more than for us to come back to Him stronger than ever.
