Promise Keeper

The third description of God in Leeland’s song “Way Maker” is Promise Keeper. Throughout the Bible God makes endless promises to us that He never fails to keep. In Isaiah 12:2 God promises us strength: “God indeed is my savior; I am confident and unafraid. My strength and my courage is the Lord and he has been my savior.” God promises us strength through Him. We are able to live life unafraid because He never leaves our side. God's strength is constantly with us because He is constantly with us. His promise of strength gives us the confidence to face life’s challenges, both big and small. As we face these challenges God also gives us the promise of protection. Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “It is the Lord who marches before you; he will be with you and will never fail you or forsake you. So do not fear or be dismayed.” The Lord marches before us. Before we endure any challenge this life throws at us, God has already defeated it. He is constantly by our side, just one step ahead. That one step may not seem like much, but for God, that’s all it takes for Him to take down the hardships we face before we even recognize that they are there. Finally, God's most important promise to us, is His promise of Salvation through His Son, Jesus. 1 Peter 2:24 states, “He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” Jesus’ death on the cross is the physical sign of God's promise of salvation. Through His passion, death, resurrection, and ascension into Heaven we have been promised a life after death where our sins are not counted against us. What is so incredibly beautiful about each of these promises is that we did not do anything to deserve them. We were granted these promises before we were even in our mother’s wombs. God promises us strength, protection, salvation, and so many other things solely because of His perfect love for us. There is nothing we did or didn’t do to earn these gifts from Him. He gave them to us simply because of His unconditional, perfect love.
