Loneliness affects every single person. You can be in a crowd full of people and still feel lonely. A lot of people think that getting a lot of friends or getting into a relationship will help cure their loneliness, but let me tell y’all that that couldn’t be further from the truth. I have felt the loneliest I have ever felt while in a relationship, and the reason for this is that physical loneliness and spiritual loneliness are not the same. In all honesty, the key to loneliness is balance. Sometimes it is nice to be alone to focus on yourself, and I’m one of those people who enjoys spending time with just myself. However, I’d be lying if I said that I never get that lonely feeling. So, when I start to feel lonely I find myself turning to some great bible verses that remind me that I am never truly alone. The first verse is Psalm 23:4, “Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm for You are at my side; Your rod and Your staff give me courage.” Whether we’re dealing with the loss of a loved one, a bout of sinfulness, or a broken relationship, this verse reminds us that we never have to face these difficulties by ourselves. I say this verse to myself often when I am feeling anxious. It really helps soothe my uneasiness. With our humanity comes struggles, which will ultimately be accompanied by the feeling that we have to overcome these struggles on our own. Whether we like it or not loneliness is just a part of life that we all must learn to put at the feet of our King. The next verse I love is Matthew 28:20, “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” One of the reasons why I love this verse so much is because it emphasizes the infinite nature of our God. “Until the end of the age” our King will be at our side. Not even for a second are we not accompanied by Him on our walk through life. When we are experiencing loneliness it can be so hard to remember these things because we can feel so stuck in our feelings of insecurity. Even if we are constantly surrounded by people, if we do not feel fulfilled spiritually, then the loneliest isn't going to fully go away. Our loneliness may subside when we’re around others, but it’s the spiritual loneliness that can really leave us feeling the emptiest. I hope that the next time y’all feel alone that y’all turn to these great verses and are reminded that our King never leaves us.
