Judging Sin

First of all I would like to apologize for the very intimidating title, but I honestly could not think of a better one. Sin is a tough topic to discuss, mainly because it’s an uncomfortable one. No one wants to talk about the times they’ve messed up, especially in the eyes of the One True Judge, but I’m about to so let’s see how it goes. We all have our own sins that we constantly are going back to. Some of us gossip too much, miss church too much, drink too much, cheat, swear, lie; we just do things we shouldn’t. However, the one thing that we are all guilty of is that we assume that, for some reason, our sins aren’t as bad as others. We’re able to lay down at night and say, “Oh well sure I did this but he did something way worse the other weekend.” And what does that do for us? That doesn’t make our sins go away. Judgment is a sin that I, like most people, am very guilty of. I think that if I judge another based on the sins they commit, I will feel so much better. When in actuality, it does the opposite. If anything, judgment only leads to the self-magnification of our own sins. So what do we do when we find ourselves falling into the trap of judgement? First, we need remember John 8:7, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” After we have meditated on that and have humbled ourselves, we need to go to the beautiful sacrament of confession. Let’s confess our sins, most importantly our judgments, and move on. Once our sins are forgiven, we no longer need to wallow in them. Once Our Father forgives, He forgives. There's no need to stay trapped in sin. Learn from it and move onto a mindset of understanding by accepting Our King, yourself, and others.

XOXO, MC
