Patience in the Waiting

If you’re anything like me, waiting patiently is not something that comes easily, especially in unknown situations. There are so many moments in our lives when the waiting periods can become super overwhelming and very frustrating. Some of us are waiting to hear back from that college, or about that job we applied for. Some of us are waiting for our spouse, or waiting for a positive pregnant test. Some of us are waiting to pay off debt, or find a place where we feel like we truly belong. There are so many other things we wait for in this life, but if we only view life as a period of waiting we will easily lose hope and patience. Romans 8:25-26 states, “But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” I love these verses because they note the frustration that comes with waiting and the unknown. Often times we don’t even know what we are waiting for, but we know that we have a longing feeling that can’t be satisfied. Those are the moments when we just have to give all our hope and trust over to God, knowing that the Spirit will relay the unknown desires of our hearts to our loving Father. We also can’t forget that even though seasons of waiting can feel lonely, we are never alone. God is by our side the entire time as He prepares us for a glorious future. Because, at the end of the day, seasons of waiting are really more about preparation, and, sometimes, we don’t even realize that the preparation is happening because God is doing all the work. Once we start viewing these waiting periods as times to hopefully prepare for our future they will seem a lot less overwhelming and will help us become more patient. Also, never forget to ask God for the grace to be patient. God knows the deepest desires of our hearts and will never leave us feeling disappointed. God has huge plans for us, plans we didn’t even think were possible, but those huge, amazing, life changing plans typically don’t happen overnight. They typically come after periods of waiting. So, the next time you’re in a season of waiting, stay patient and have hope that once you get to the end of this season, big, glorious, miraculous plans are waiting for you.
